How do We Make Amends for Our Great American Sin?
Just as sins and secrets on the conscious of a moral person grow more troublesome and heavier to hold the more they try to erase, suppress, and forget about them, as do the sins on the conscious of a nation.
We as Americans can only avoid that hard look in the mirror for so long before we begin to deteriorate from within.
Yet an awakening is occurring and a flawed justice system is becoming exposed, and in the midst of a worldwide pandemic that still seems to have more questions than answers surrounding it, people are beginning to expose flaws and hindrances to growth in the foundation of our systems.
So, people are pouring into the streets with masks and protest signs, re-channeling their rage against the cops who murdered George Floyd.
People are re-channeling their rage against the systemic racism ingrained in societal, political, economic, and legal institutions of America.
These unfair travesties range from suspicious looks from individuals nervous by the color of someones skin, to defense attorneys who’s best method of legal defense for their clients, who have little to no resources or money for bail, is searching for the quickest plea deal rather than proving them innocent (Google Kalief Browder).
