Top 10 Reasons Apartments are Better than Living in a House

Written in 2017 by Jeremy Leal for UrbanEdge.Apartments through Swell Content.

Living in an apartment is not the usual goal for most people, but when you break down all the benefits of renting you start to see the ways its smarter to rent an apartment space rather than buy a house. Depending on the specific person or family’s current situation, the apartment life might be a better fit – here’s ten reasons why:

1. Less Financial Burden

Renters are not faced with the same financial burdens as homeowners. Buying a home requires maintenance costs, insurance, and many extra financial responsibilities that continuously linger with upkeep. If you are not in a place to take these on, you may want to consider renting. You won’t have to pay a down payment and you won’t have to take out a loan. Wait until you are financially stable enough to buy a house, or stay in an apartment for your whole life and benefit from all the conveniences it offers.

2. Safety and Security

One very cool thing about living in apartment complexes is that they usually have some form of security – whether it is an onsite security guard, gated access and lock codes, onsite cameras, and even more secure door locks in newer complexes.

3. Better Utilities

Having peace of mind knowing that you don’t have to constantly go into the basement and check the hot water heater when only ice-cold water is spraying from the showerhead, or worry about electrocuting yourself attempting to rewire an overhead light fixture is a huge relief for the apartment person.

4. Better Landscaping

Most complexes have a landscaping services to maintain the plants, shrubbery, and gardens. This is a great perk that keeps your exterior looking fresh and beautiful and takes that workload off your plate! This is valuable time and money saved by renting over buying a house.

5. Community Facilities

Community facilities are not provided in all complexes, but when they are, they’re open to everyone who lives in the apartments. Whether it is a community BBQ area, a gym, a grassy area dog-walking area, a community game room, pool, or outdoor eating area – you’re sure to find many ways to make use out these areas.

6. Repairs and Cleaning Service

If you damage the blinds, or need plumbing services, most apartments can handle damages such as this. It’s as simple as a phone call to the office center to have the maintenance staff come look at the type of repairs needed. This type of convenience is wonderful and just another perk of the apartment life.

7. Reserved Parking Spaces

Depending on the policies of the specific apartment complex, there is usually an option to have at least one reserved parking spot. Some even offer garage units. Your car will be safer and parking space will be easier to find after a long day at work when you know you are guaranteed a spot through your apartment complex.

8. Camaraderie Between Neighbors

As mentioned before, there are usually nice community areas in apartment complexes and if you take advantage of them, there are good chances that you will begin to meet new people who live in the complex. This is a great way to meet new people and develop a camaraderie with people you have things in common with.

9. Convenience in Location

Usually, apartment complexes are built near convenience stores and markets so tenants have easy access to everyday things like groceries. This is nice when compared to commuting an hour just to pick up a dozen eggs.

10. Online Payment Options

It’s amazing how wonderful it is when you have the option to pay your monthly rent online, as opposed to paying by check or money order. Most apartment complexes make it very easy to make quick online payments and if the payments do need to be made in person, it is typically not a long walk to the front office where you can drop your payment off with the staff.

Owning a home may sound like the typical dream scenario, but carefully consider these benefits of apartment-living. They just might be enough reason to make some changes to your future living arrangements.
